*general story* Kunzite is the most tragic general, in both manga and anime. Since most are more quick to recognize the anime, I'll start there. Kunzite, called Malachite in the DiC dub, is the highest ranking general of the Dark Kingdom/Negaverse. Oh, just for a tidbit of information to as to why I think Kunzite was changed to Malachite when the show took the Pacific trip is this: Zoisite calls Kunzite "Kunzite-sama" denoting quite a bit of respect for him, and also adding more syllables when he speaks. If you notice when Queen Beryl shouts "Malachite!!!" her mouth only opens and closes twice. And also the color of Malachite sometimes matches his anime hair color (it changes every friggin' episode). ANYWAY, he helps out Zoisite whenever he can, by providing encouragement or planning to destroy his/her enemies together. And when he works with Zoey, they make a damn good pair; they nearly have the sailors once, and narrowly missed getting the silver crystal. But almost successes are not victories. Zoisite/Zoycite did disobey Queen Beryl's orders, and was destroyed right in front of Kunzite/Malachite's protesting selfe. He wanted to take the heat, but Beryl did not accept his portion of the blame, and thus, Zoisite died just the same. He was visibly shaken when his only love died, and never quite the same again. The once master planner fell apart: his schemes became progessivly half-assed, and his interest in the job only flared when it involved killing the Sailor soldiers. He dies in battle, when Sailor Moon deflects one of his super-cool glowing boomerangs of death (yes, that IS a technical term) and he stands and well, takes it even though he is perfectly capable of taking one step to the right and avoiding it. So he finally is torn from his miserable existance, calling out to Zoisite/Zoycite 'till the end.

*personality*
Kunzite/Malachite is a character whose silence speaks most about him. His partner, Zoisite/Zoycite is often given to fits of anger or depression, which he handles with a cool manner, often with a gentle pat to basically say "spaz down, Zoi." Not much seems to phase him...until after Zoisite is gone. Immediately after the departure of the aforementioned general, he goes on a mad tirade and damn nearly kills the sailor team. In the episodes ensuing, he is easily irrated and vindictive to a point of almost obsession when it comes to fighting the sailors; he even brutalizes Luna and Artemis! From this subtle change in personality, one can deduce that Kunzite/Malachite's first loyalty lies with Zoisite/Zoycite; he is someone who has nominal control over his emotions, yet they radically affect him.

*Manga*
Kunzite in the manga has NO relationship with Zoisite, other than that of comrade and friend. He seeks to retrieve the silver crystal in order to revive the three other deceased kings of the Dark Kingdom. Through spying on Queen Beryl, he learns the true nature of the Dark Kingdom and the monster to which he and his friends pleged allegiance to. Later, he recalls his past as a protector of Endymion. After his death due to the ever-powerful Sailor Planet Attack, his spirit acts as the voice of that of the other Kings in aiding Endymion when he needs advice throughout the Manga. In the past, he had a relationship with Sailor Venus. This is the one relationship between Sailor Soldier and Earth General which is hinted at most. Besides the imfamous "Generals-being cuddly with the Sailor Senshi" picture, there is mention of Kunzite flirting with Venus when she came to Earth to retrive a certain Moon Princess gone AWOL. In the end of the Sailor V manga, Danburite (aka Kaitou Ace aka Adonis) reveals to Sailor V that he (Danburite/K. Ace/Adonis) had a crush on Sailor Venus during the Silver Millenium, but she was too busy with other people i.e. Kunzy! (see image below; the guy in the lower left corner isn't Jadeite, it's Adonis). It's probably my favorite of the Gen-SS pairings ;) Back to Beauty in Darkness
